Statement of the Member States of the European Union participating in the VASAB Committee on Spatial Planning and Development of the Baltic Sea Region   VASAB (Vision and Strategies around the Baltic Sea) is a cooperation of ministers responsible for spatial planning and development of the Baltic Sea Region countries, established in 1992.

The opening conference of the eMSP project was organized on the 22nd of February, 10:30-17:30 CET, online. Aim of the conference was to introduce the topics and working methods of the eMSP NBSR project, as well as to discuss opportunities of stakeholders to get involved in project activities.

Within the framework of the project platform ‘Strengthening the Capacity of MSP Stakeholders and Decision Makers: Capacity4MSP’, analysis of on implementation and monitoring & evaluation mechanisms of maritime spatial plans (MSPs) was carried out. The results of the analysis are presented in the integrated report.

The VASAB Committee on Spatial Planning and Development of the Baltic Sea Region (VASAB CSPD/BSR) is chaired by Germany from 1 January 2022 to 30 June 2023.

The 4th Capacity4MSP project platform’s partner meeting was held online on 23 November 2021. This meeting’s focus was to share the updates of the project activities, set the goals for the upcoming four project implementation months and discuss the project result dissemination. Main discussion topics are listed below.

Under the Interreg BSR programme project platform’s ‘Strengthening the capacity of MSP stakeholders and decision makers’ (Capacity4MSP) activity ‘Capitalisation of current maritime spatial planning (MSP) activities and projects’ a report has been developed synthesizing the experience from MSP projects in the Baltic Sea Region and the resultant policy messages.

How does maritime spatial planning contribute to territorial cohesion of the Baltic Sea Region? As one of the tasks for the policy area Spatial Planning of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR), coordinated by the VASAB and HELCOM Secretariats, maritime spatial planning is highlighted by the recent Let’s Communicate project article.
